In this first blog, I will be introducing my project that I have chosen to promote through the use of two social media accounts alongside this website. I have chosen to focus upon travel and animal photography, this is something that I find very enjoyable and therefore capturing moments that I will cherish from visiting different places from around the world. Due to this, I made the decision to create a photography brand with the use of Instagram and Facebook to promote myself along with the website that contains a portfolio of images, contact details and about myself.
I've decided to use my Instagram and Facebook to count down to the launch of my website as 'a good effective website helps build a strong online presence and helps communicate quality information to your consumers.' For a photography account the use of websites is essential as it allows consumers to get to know the photographer and can see a wide range of images taken by so alongside having a contact page as this is vital for being a photographer allowing consumers to reach out if needed. Consequently this will allow myself to increase engagement with consumers and further my popularity.
This is when I decided to look into what makes a good logo for a brand, 'a good logo is distinctive, appropriate, practical, graphic and simple in form, and it conveys the owner’s intended message. A concept or “meaning” is usually behind an effective logo, and it communicates the intended message.' (Cass, J. 2009) I believe that the logo I created follows these ideas very well. I decided to make my logo of a very pale grey colour, this allows the attention to focus completely on the camera, and name of my brand. I also used a photograph in the background which is very faded however, is just enough to see but not take away from the centre focus of the camera and brand name. Therefore, my logo is very simplistic yet gets the message across perfectly of what my brand is.
When it came to deciding on what two social media's to use for my brand, it was an easy decision. Instagram is something I use daily myself and is a perfect way to showcase my photography due to the nature of this app. Facebook is also something that I can comfortably use and have previously used it to create a professional account in the past. On Instagram I will be using stories and furthermore highlights to interact with followers which is a key feature of this social media. I have also had a bit of knowledge on creating a website on Wix from using it at college however, some aspects I could not remember. Wix makes it easy to create professional looking websites through the use of tailoring examples to my own taste.
